REVIVE (Restoring Ecosystems in the Face of Depopulation Via Innovation & Entrepreneurship) is an Erasmus+ project aiming to Co-develop innovative solutions that strengthen local economies to address the root causes of depopulation. Through collaboration with students and rural residents, the project focuses on the creation of educational materials that promote sustainable entrepreneurship recognizing ecosystem services as key economic assets. The project develops online courses, training tools, and practical and academic resources that equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to fight against depopulation.
The aim is to create sustainable solutions, advance knowledge, and foster collaboration for affected rural regions. Participants will engage in themes such as climate change, economic revitalization, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable entrepreneurship.
The project will implement a structured monitoring system to ensure that all project activities are progressing as planned, maintaining high-quality standards, and achieving the expected outcomes.
WP2 will commence with an in-person kickoff meeting in Salamanca, Spain, designed to fulfill two key objectives:
WP3 aims to create an accessible and interdisciplinary online course that synthesizes knowledge from previous work packages and equips learners with practical tools to address rural depopulation. This MOOC will provide innovative educational resources focusing on ecosystem services, rural entrepreneurship, and policy strategies for revitalization.
WP4 aims to compile comprehensive research, case studies, and policy recommendations to serve as a practical resource for addressing rural depopulation and promoting ecosystem sustainability.
Lead: LCSS
WP5 aims to develop an interactive digital toolkit that allows students, educators, and researchers to visualize and analyze the relationships between demographic changes and ecosystem functions.
Lead: NIGGG-BAS
WP6 aims to assess the progress of the REVIVE Project, summarize key findings, and explore entrepreneurial solutions for rural resilience in the face of climate change and depopulation.
Lead: University of Catania
WP7 outcomes within each partner country. Unlike previous work packages, WP7 does not involve transnational mobilities; instead, activities are conducted locally within each country, allowing for a direct and context-specific engagement with rural communities, academic institutions, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
WP8 aims to culminate the REVIVE Project with a major international conference that blends academic discussions with grassroots perspectives, making it a landmark event for Greenland. Hosted by Ilisimatusarfik (University of Greenland), this conference will bring together project team members, indigenous communities, local leaders, academics, students, NGOs, local authorities, and guest speakers, fostering a multidisciplinary dialogue on rural sustainability, self-sufficiency, and climate adaptation.
